About the event
When Law Meets the Air We Breathe
Air is invisible, yet it defines every breath we take.
India’s air pollution challenge doesn’t come from a lack of legislation - but from how laws are understood, implemented, and enforced.
From the Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 to the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, and the growing body of National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders, the legal framework for clean air already exists. What remains is turning awareness into accountability and ensuring that every citizen knows their rights and how to act on them.
This session will explore the evolution of India’s air pollution laws, landmark cases, the enforcement gap, and most importantly, how citizens can engage in upholding their Right to Clean Air.
